Roots Farm CSA: Memberships Still Available

Strawberries on the vineRoots Farm, located on 13 acres just outside of Athens, GA, is now in the fourth season of its CSA program. For there to be remaining memberships is an exception. They will not last long, and this is an especially great opportunity for anyone in the Classic City community not only to support local agriculture but also to enjoy the fruits of an established and successful CSA, which often have initial hiccups.

From Sara Callaway, Roots Farm Manager:

Hey Folks!

…someone thought that perhaps you might be interested in the Roots Farm CSA.  What is a CSA?  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is a group effort between local farmers and consumers to produce and distribute fresh, healthy, local food in a way that is sustainable for the land, the farmers who steward it, and the folks who eat from it.  The basic nuts and bolts of CSAs are as follows:

–members join at the beginning of the year and pay for their share up front to fund the production of the food they will get later in the season

–this money helps pay for the seeds, soil amendments, farm labor, and more that is required to produce the food

–when the produce is ready, weekly pickups of share baskets begin and will continue until the end of the season

This year, the details of our 2010 CSA season are:

–19 weeks of share basket pickups: April 27 – September 3

–Full Share $589 – includes 8-12 items and feeds 2-4 folks (average cost/value $31/week)

–Half Share $323 – includes 5-7 items and feeds 1-2 folks (average cost/value $17/week)

–Pickups are on-farm, 4-7pm Tuesdays or Fridays (with an option of Saturday pickups at the Athens Farmers Market for Friday folks, by request)

Memberships are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis and are reserved when we receive your membership application and deposit.  Apply today!  The CSA tends to fill up fast!
